247 - Amidst strong criticism from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the President of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, has started a vacation period that will extend until the 19th of this month. His departure comes after leading a speculative attack on the real, which resulted in the devaluation of the national currency. The information comes from the newspaper O Globo.

Campos Neto, accused of propagating a supposed fiscal risk based on market "expectations," had been conducting monetary policy that, according to critics, favors speculators and harms the Brazilian economy. His actions, guided by financial market projections, were seen as a speculative attack on the real, intensifying the currency's devaluation and causing instability.

During Campos Neto's absence, the director of monetary policy, Gabriel Galípolo, will take over the reins of the Central Bank. Galípolo, seen as more aligned with a balanced monetary policy and a possible successor to Campos Neto, will have the task of mitigating the damage caused by his boss's approach.
