247 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not intend to respond to the statement by the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, that elections in Brazil are not audited. In a recent rally, Maduro made this statement, but Brazilian diplomats downplayed it, interpreting it as a "campaign speech" and not a direct attack on the Brazilian electoral system.

Diplomats from Itamaraty heard by the columnist Bela Megale from O Globo highlighted that Maduro mentioned other countries in the same context, including the United States and Venezuela itself, suggesting that the statement was part of a broader political rhetoric. When contacted, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) sent five previously published texts that explain in detail the functioning of the Brazilian electoral system and emphasize that all stages of the process are audited.

Moreover, the ministry believes that Lula's reaction, expressing being "shocked" by Maduro's threat of a "possible bloodbath" if he lost the elections, had a significant impact on the Venezuelan president. In response, Maduro stated that those who were shocked by his words should "drink chamomile tea."

However, Itamaraty highlighted another statement by Maduro to the local press, in which he said he would recognize the election results, regardless of the outcome. "We will recognize and defend the result, and peace will triumph. There will be peace before and after the 28th," said Maduro, as reported by the newspaper "El Universal."

An interview given to the Spanish newspaper "El País" by Maduro's son, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, was also seen as a sign of moderation in the discourse. In this Wednesday's edition (24), he expressed confidence in a Chavista victory but stated that, if necessary, they would recognize the defeat.
