247 - In an interview with CNN Brazil, Supreme Federal Court (STF) President Luís Roberto Barroso reinforced the support of the Court’s justices for the decisions of his colleague Alexandre de Moraes, especially in matters involving the defense of democracy. "Minister Moraes' decisions reflect the institutional sentiment of the Court in defense of democracy," Barroso stated, highlighting the importance of the role played by the minister during moments of instability in the country.

Barroso emphasized that Moraes’ actions, often the target of criticism, are not the result of isolated decisions but rather reflect the collective understanding of the STF. He cited the blocking of the social network X (formerly Twitter), a measure confirmed by a collegial decision, as an example, and said that Moraes' actions are not "personalist." For Barroso, there is a consensus within the court that firm measures are necessary to protect democratic institutions.

The STF president acknowledged the "personal cost" that this firm stance has caused for Moraes and his family. "He has played a very important, courageous, and firm role that has helped the country in difficult moments," said Barroso, recognizing that the threats to the minister's personal safety are a burden he bears in defense of democracy.

Barroso stressed that, although each justice has their own approach to conducting inquiries, the decisions are guided by a collective sense of institutional responsibility, ensuring that democracy is preserved in challenging times.
