PGR analyzes the unblocking of social network X after fines paid by Elon Musk
Elon Musk's platform receded and asked Alexandre de Moraes to go back online after more than a month
247 - The Supreme Federal Court (STF) informed the Attorney General's Office (PGR) about the payment of fines owed by the social network X to the Brazilian judiciary, after the platform's funds, controlled by far-right billionaire Elon Musk, were deposited in the accounts indicated by the Court at Banco do Brasil, as reported by O Globo on Monday (7).
Now, the process of unblocking the social network awaits a statement from the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, as well as a position from STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes. On August 30, the minister suspended access to the platform across the country due to Elon Musk's refusal to appoint a legal representative in Brazil.
Earlier on Monday, the STF announced that the R$ 28.6 million fine paid by X to resume operations in Brazil had been transferred to the correct account. The measure came after the amount had initially been deposited by the company into an account at Caixa Econômica Federal.
Elon Musk, the owner of the social network, announced the closure of the company's headquarters in Brazil after the network was fined for refusing to comply with the order to take down profiles of Bolsonaro supporters under investigation for posting anti-democratic messages.
However, the representation was reactivated in recent weeks, and lawyer Rachel Villa Nova resumed her role as the network's legal representative. With the reopening of the representation and the payment of the fine, Musk’s X receded and asked Moraes to allow the platform back online.
