Brazil will be represented by ambassador at Trump's inauguration

247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will not attend the inauguration ceremony of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party), on January 20.

Brazil's ambassador to Washington (USA), Maria Luiza Viotti, will represent the South American country at the event. According to Isto É magazine, President Lula has not yet been invited to the inauguration and has not spoken with Trump since the U.S. election held in November last year.

A representative of the American far-right, Donald Trump followed the traditional protocol for presidential inaugurations, which includes inviting ambassadors from countries with diplomatic representation in Washington. If the ambassador does not attend, the chargé d'affaires, the second in command at the diplomatic mission, is responsible for participating.

The presidential election in the United States was held on November 5, 2024. Republican Donald Trump, who served as president from 2017 to 2021, was declared the winner against former Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who conceded defeat.
