247 – The First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) will assess this Wednesday (March 26) whether to accept the charges brought by the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) against the so-called “core group 1” of the alleged coup plot.

“We initially planned to assess the preliminary matters in this session and the acceptance of the charges tomorrow. We’re maintaining this methodology,” stated Minister Cristiano Zanin, who presides over the panel.

Also on Tuesday (25), Minister Alexandre de Moraes rejected all five preliminary motions submitted by the defense lawyers of the defendants. After reviewing all preliminary matters, the session was suspended and will resume tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. The other ministers also rejected the motions by majority.

Among the arguments presented to the court, defense attorneys claimed the plea bargain deal signed by Mauro Cid — former aide-de-camp to Bolsonaro — was invalid. They also argued they had not had full access to the evidence and insisted the trial should be conducted by the full bench of the Court, composed of 11 justices, rather than the First Panel, which includes five justices.
